The German authorities established Schweineberg as an official nature reserve through a decree issued on December 11, 1947, which took effect on January 6, 1948.
The forest paths guide visitors through stands of beech trees up to 200 years old, with an educational trail explaining the natural features of the area.

During spring, the reserve displays extensive fields of snowdrops spanning 1.5 kilometers in length and up to 200 meters in width across the forest floor.
