Selimiye-Moschee Lünen, Islamic mosque in Lünen, Germany
The Selimiye Mosque is an Islamic prayer hall in Lünen built with a concrete structure and traditional Turkish-Islamic features including a minaret and large dome above the prayer space. The interior displays detailed mosaics and calligraphy, centered by a fountain beneath the dome and illuminated by a chandelier with more than 100 lights.
This mosque opened in 2008 after nine years of construction, marking an important moment for the Muslim community in North Rhine-Westphalia. The project reflected the growth and establishment of the Islamic community in the region over several decades.
The mosque serves as a gathering place where the local Islamic community meets for prayer and social activities. You can see how the space brings people together across different generations and supports their daily spiritual life.
The building has separate areas for men and women, with the women's section located in an upper gallery for organized prayer and community gatherings. The two-level layout accommodates more visitors and provides functional spaces for different activities throughout the day.
The prayer space spans two levels covering around 640 square meters, making it a generously proportioned hall. The combination of mosaics, calligraphy, and the elaborate lighting arrangement creates a distinctive feeling as you enter the space.
