Sender Harz-West is a radio transmission facility located on the southern peak of Lerchenköpfe in the Harz Mountains. The installation features a tall steel lattice mast that rises prominently from the forested landscape and is visible from many vantage points across the region.
The transmission facility began operations in 1955 and was originally equipped with a 200-meter mast. The mast was reduced to about 235 meters in 2014 for safety reasons.
The transmitter extends radio coverage to large sections of former East Germany, providing access to NDR radio programs and primary television broadcasts.
The facility is located at a higher elevation in the Harz region and is accessible via roads in the area. Visitors can view the transmission mast from nearby hiking trails and viewpoints.
The structure underwent a height reduction from 279.5 meters to 235 meters in 2014 due to safety considerations.
