Paulinerkloster St. Jakob, Donnersberg

Located on the northern slopes of Donnersberg, the monastery complex includes preserved Gothic architectural elements and historical foundations near the current Waldhaus restaurant.

Founded in 1335 when the Counts of Sponheim transferred a chapel to the Eremite Order of Saint Paul, establishing a monastic presence in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The monastery served as a center for religious activities until 1554, when the Protestant Reformation led to its transformation into a hunting lodge.

Visitors can examine the remaining structures and medieval artifacts, including a Gothic sacramental niche, while exploring the surrounding Donnersberg landscape.

The site originated as a Celtic ring wall location before becoming a chapel dedicated to Saint James, later developing into a Pauline monastery.
