Steinfurter Bagno, Public park in Steinfurt, Germany
Steinfurter Bagno is a large landscape park spread across woodland and meadows between the Borghorst and Burgsteinfurt districts, featuring a lake with islands and several historic buildings. The grounds offer varied natural spaces and structures that tell the story of its past use.
The park was established in 1765 by Count Charles Paul Ernest of Bentheim-Steinfurt as a summer residence, initially designed following French garden traditions with geometric layouts. Over time, the estate was expanded with exotic structures built during the 1800s.
The Concert Gallery building stands as a reminder of the site's role as a place for musical performances and artistic gatherings throughout the centuries. It reflects how this estate served as a cultural center for the community and visitors alike.
The park is free to visit year-round and welcomes visitors for hiking, cycling, and rowing on the lake. Outdoor dining areas are scattered throughout the grounds, making it easy to take a break during your visit.
Thirty-five information markers across the grounds indicate where former attractions once stood, including a Turkish mosque, an Egyptian tower, and a Chinese palace. These markers help visitors understand the exotic structures that populated the estate long ago.
