Tritonenbrunnen in Düsseldorf

Tritonenbrunnen in Düsseldorf, Decorative fountain on Königsallee, Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Tritonenbrunnen is a decorative limestone fountain on Königsallee in Düsseldorf with a central figure holding a spear and controlling a large fish, surrounded by lion heads. The structure marks the terminus of the canal system and serves as a visual anchor point in the area.

Friedrich Coubillier designed this limestone structure between 1898 and 1902 specifically for the northern end of Königsallee. The work marks a transformation of the area during that period and became an important landmark for the district.

The fountain depicts a figure from Greek mythology interacting with water children and a large fish. This representation shapes the appearance of the square and serves as a visual landmark that visitors notice while walking through the area.

The fountain stands in an accessible location where visitors can easily arrive while exploring the shopping street. In fine weather, it is a pleasant spot to linger, especially in connection with the nearby canal system and the many shops around it.

The fountain contains hidden stone seats tucked beneath an overhanging roof that blend naturally into the structure. These integrated rest spots are easy to overlook but offer visitors a surprising opportunity to sit and rest while observing the details of the work.
