Wenigenburg, Medieval castle ruins on basalt hill in Gudensberg, Germany

The Wenigenburg castle complex spans an area of 44 by 25 meters, featuring a round tower encircled by a ring wall at 226 meters elevation.

The castle served as a lower fortress for Obernburg until 1387, when Archbishop Adolf I of Nassau's forces completely destroyed it during a military campaign.

From 1717, the city musician resided at the castle hill, maintaining a music school where students performed choral music after Sunday services.

The castle remains are now integrated into Gudensberg's town fortifications, though the structure remains in private ownership with no public access permitted.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, tower guards inhabited the castle to alert Gudensberg residents about potential fire threats.
