Burg Buchenbach

Burg Buchenbach is a castle set on a hill above the village of Buchenbach with a rectangular layout and corner towers. The structure features a distinctive half-timbered gable from the 15th century that defines its overall appearance.

The castle was built in the 11th century for the Lords of Buchenbach and served as their residence for centuries. It underwent major renovation in 1356 under Rudiger von Bachlingen, who expanded and improved its structure.

The castle shows building styles that were common in the Hohenlohe region and how medieval noble families designed their seats. Visitors can see medieval craftsmanship in the walls and the half-timbered gable.

The castle sits on a hill above the village and is visible from the surrounding area, but it remains in private ownership. Visitors should respect the access restrictions and only enter areas that are open to the public.

The walls are remarkably solid and show the sturdy medieval construction, designed for defense and long-term endurance. A square tower at the northwest corner stands out prominently and was originally a key element of the fortress.
