Alboinplatz, Cultural heritage square in Schöneberg, Germany
Alboinplatz is a large public square in Schöneberg featuring meadows, birch and beech trees, and the Blanke Helle lake in the center. The area spreads generously across the landscape, giving people plenty of room to walk and spend time.
Landscape architect Erwin Barth designed the space between 1912 and 1932 as a green retreat for the growing city. The area then developed into a popular recreation spot for Berliners.
The square is known for a massive limestone bull sculpture by Paul Mersmann that has defined the space since the 1930s. Locals often use this figure as a meeting point and landmark.
The space is easily reached by U-Bahn at Kaiserin Augusta Station or by bus route 106. The grounds are open to the public and invite exploration at any time of year.
The lake formed during the Ice Age and gained natural monument status in 2004. This geological history makes it a valuable place for nature lovers.
