Base aérienne 136 Friedrichshafen, Military airbase in Friedrichshafen, Germany

Friedrichshafen Air Base 136 is a military facility with a concrete runway and two large hangar structures. One aircraft hangar extends to about 100 meters in length, while the airship hangar spans 270 meters across.

The facility was taken over by the French Air Force in 1945 after World War II and equipped with modern fighter aircraft like the P-47 Thunderbolt. It remained under French control through the occupation period before eventually transferring to German military command.

The location reflects Europe's divided history by hosting both French and German military traditions across several decades. The infrastructure shows how armed forces from both nations operated and worked alongside each other in this space.

The base is located on the northeastern edge of Friedrichshafen and is easily reached from the city center. Access to the grounds has been possible at times, though visiting hours and restrictions may vary depending on current military use.

From 1949 to 1953, French EC 4 units equipped with De Havilland Vampire jets were stationed here before the base transitioned to German control. These aircraft represented cutting-edge jet engine technology that spread across Europe following the war.
