Edersee Dam, Hydroelectric dam in Waldeck, Germany.

Edersee Dam is a large concrete structure that spans across the Eder River and holds back a vast body of water. The construction dominates the landscape of the Waldeck region and creates a visible barrier between the lower and upper reaches of the valley.

The structure was built in the early 1900s for power generation and water management purposes. It suffered significant damage from bombing raids during World War II and was later repaired.

The reservoir covers land where people once lived, and descendants can visit places connected to their families when water levels drop. This link to the past gives the place personal meaning for many visitors.

The site is best explored on foot or by bike using paths that run along the dam area. In late summer, when water levels drop, additional trails and ground become accessible around the lake.

When water levels drop, the ruins of old villages that lie beneath the reservoir become visible. These submerged places can be explored during summer months and offer a glimpse into what the valley looked like before flooding.
