Zoo Tower, Flak tower in Berlin
Zoo Tower was a massive concrete fortress in Berlin, standing about 40 meters tall. The structure served as an air-defense position and provided shelter spaces for the population during bombing raids.
Construction began in 1941 as an air-defense installation to counter Allied aircraft over Berlin. The remaining structure was demolished during the mid-1940s after the war ended.
During air raids, the Zoo Tower also functioned as a public air-raid shelter for civilians.
The site is no longer accessible today since the structure was completely demolished. Visitors can only explore historical records and photographs to learn more about this location.
The Zoo Tower has become an iconic symbol of wartime Berlin and is featured in many historical recounts.
