The Wipperdurchbruch is a protected nature reserve featuring steep hillsides, limestone cliffs, and varied plant life within the Hainleite mountain range. The area encompasses different habitats, from moist valleys to dry slopes that support a range of vegetation types.

The Wipperdurchbruch is the narrow, winding gorge where the Wipper, a western tributary of the Unstrut, cuts through the Muschelkalk ridge of the Hainleite between Seega and Günserode. The 631.6-hectare nature reserve protects the steep slopes and adjoining plateau, and within it lie the archaeological monuments of the Arnsburg and the Kohnstein.

The name Wipperdurchbruch is German for the Wipper's breach: the river Wipper, a western tributary of the Unstrut, cuts through the Muschelkalk ridge of the Hainleite between Seega and Günserode. The L 2290 runs along the valley floor between the two villages, and side valleys such as the Ilmental and Rabental split the slopes into spurs like the Kohnstein and Mühlberg.

The reserve features marked hiking trails that connect different viewpoints and natural habitats throughout the area. The best way to explore is on foot, and it helps to check locally about trail conditions before visiting.

Within the reserve lie the archaeological monuments of Arnsburg and Kohnstein, marked in the terrain above the valley slopes.
