The sanatorium complex spans 5 hectares of grounds with multiple interconnected buildings featuring neoclassical columns and neobaroque architectural elements.
Built in 1875 as Hotel Belvedere, the facility transformed into a children's orphanage in 1927 before becoming a specialized medical center for respiratory conditions in 1958.
The facility bears the name of German resistance fighter Erich Steinfurth and operated as part of the German Democratic Republic's state health system until 1991.
The deteriorating structures currently stand empty on Glienberg near central Zinnowitz, with potential plans for conversion into residential units announced in 2024.
The medical facility contained specialized treatment rooms including salt chambers and hydrotherapy baths for children affected by respiratory conditions.
