Doertebachtal, Protected area in Klotten, Germany
The Doertebachtal extends along a side valley of the Moselle River, featuring steep slopes, diverse vegetation, and a natural waterfall in its landscape.
This nature reserve received its protected status in 1930, making it one of the earlier conservation areas established in the Rhineland-Palatinate region.
The reserve's hiking trails connect to traditional wine-growing terraces and agricultural fields, reflecting the local farming heritage of the Moselle Valley.
Visitors can access the 5-kilometer trail from the parking area on B49, following lizard-marked signs through a route with 240 meters of elevation gain.
The valley contains plant species from four distinct geographic regions: Mediterranean, Black Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and Alpine zones, creating an exceptional ecological mix.
