Town Hall, Municipal building in Flensburg, Germany
The Town Hall is a modern municipal administrative building in Flensburg featuring seventeen stories, a twelve-story tower, a four-story base, and a five-story north wing clad in Norwegian quartzite panels. The structure houses various departments including civil registration, citizen services, and administrative offices in one central location.
The current building replaced its predecessor from 1445 in 1965 following a major land exchange with the Hertie department store. This development was part of the city's post-war modernization effort.
The building displays a large Flensburg coat of arms on its south side, which visitors can still see today as a striking expression of local pride. This symbol marks the connection between the municipality and the people who live here.
The building is centrally located in Flensburg and easily accessible from all main areas of the city. Keep in mind this is an active government office, so opening hours and access may vary depending on which department you need to visit.
A nuclear-proof bunker capable of sheltering up to 2000 people was built beneath the building's parking garage during the Cold War. The facility remained operational until 2012, reflecting the security concerns of that era.
