Felto - Filzwelt Soltau, Museum about felt in Soltau, Germany
Felto is a museum dedicated to felt-making in Soltau, located within five floors of a former felt warehouse and featuring interactive exhibits alongside working model machines. Visitors can participate in hands-on felting activities to understand how this craft works in practice.
Felt manufacturing as an industry in Soltau developed over more than 170 years and became a major part of the town's economy. The museum opened to the public in August 2015 to document and preserve this industrial heritage.
The ground floor contains a felt market offering products from Nepal and beyond, supported by volunteers from local church communities who help run the space. This marketplace connects traditional craft with social initiatives that are part of the community today.
The building is accessible for wheelchair users with elevators throughout, allowing visitors to explore all five floors comfortably. Plan enough time to move through the different levels and try out the hands-on activities at a relaxed pace.
An observation deck at 23.80 meters high offers views of Soltau's center and the manufacturing grounds of Roeders AG factory. This elevated vantage point shows how closely craft traditions and industrial production have been intertwined throughout the town's past.
