Breidings Garten

Breidings Garten is an 11-hectare landscape garden in Soltau featuring ponds, moorland sections, orchards, massive rhododendron plantings, and an Italian-style villa linked by winding walking paths. Different zones within this space showcase distinct natural environments and garden styles, each with its own character and plant composition.

The Röder family, an industrial manufacturing clan, began developing this garden from 1850 onward according to their vision. Key additions over the decades included an artificial castle ruin constructed in the 1870s and substantial rhododendron plantings that expanded greatly during the 1930s.

This place has long been a gathering spot where visitors can experience the changing seasons and observe how different plants thrive together. Today, organized tours help guests understand the stories behind the plantings and how the space was shaped over generations.

The garden sits near Soltau's town center and features accessible routes for wheelchair users throughout. Multiple pathways allow you to choose your own pace and direction, with some easier sections suitable for those with limited mobility.

The garden cultivates roughly 38 different tree species from multiple continents, mixing local varieties such as English oak with specimens from North America and Japan. This botanical blend developed gradually across generations and reflects how the owners' curiosity about world plants shaped the space over time.
