Villa Berberich, Cultural heritage monument in Bad Säckingen, Germany.
Villa Berberich is a cultural heritage monument in Bad Säckingen set within a park area with classical architectural elements. The building houses multiple exhibition spaces and serves as a cultural center today, including a mineral museum displaying over one thousand specimens from the Southern Black Forest, Jura, and Vosges mountains.
The villa was built in 1874 by textile industrialist Ignaz Berberich as a private residence. In 1940 it was converted into a hospital and remained in that use until 1980, when it was transformed into its present role as a cultural center.
The upper floors host rotating art exhibitions organized by the city and the Hochrhein Art Association, showing regional and contemporary works. Visitors can discover current positions of local and regional artists in these spaces.
The mineral museum section is open on weekends from 15:00 to 17:00 and displays over one thousand mineral specimens from the region. The grounds are easily accessible and the surrounding park is pleasant for walking before or after your visit.
A Japanese Torii gate stands in the pond facing the villa, erected in 2019 to mark the partnership between Bad Säckingen and Nagai city in Japan. This unexpected element connects the local setting with an international relationship.
