Trains to Life – Trains to Death, Memorial sculpture near Friedrichstraße station in Berlin, Germany
The bronze and granite monument displays seven children figures, with five in grey bronze facing east and two in lighter bronze facing west.
The memorial marks the departure point of the first Kindertransport train on November 30, 1938, which carried 196 Jewish children to safety in England.
The monument represents two different destinies of Jewish children during the Nazi era: those who escaped through Kindertransport and those who perished in concentration camps.
Located at the intersection of Georgenstraße and Friedrichstraße in Berlin-Mitte, the memorial stands directly outside the Friedrichstraße railway station entrance.
Frank Meisler, who created this memorial in 2008, was himself one of the children rescued through Kindertransport from Berlin to England in 1939.
