Vineum Bodensee, Wine museum in Meersburg, Germany

Vineum Bodensee is a wine museum of the town of Meersburg, housed in the former Heilig-Geist-Spital at Vorburggasse 11 in the upper town. Its ground floor centres on the Heiliggeist-Torkel, a wine press from 1607 that could press up to 4,000 kilograms of grapes in 24 hours and remained in operation until 1922. Upper floors hold the oldest labelled wine bottle of the Lake Constance region, from 1865, and a wall installation with one bottle from each of the 101 wine-producing countries.

The museum opened on 29 July 2016 in the former Heilig-Geist-Spital, a hospital building where the physician and magnetist Franz Anton Mesmer died on 5 March 1815. Its entrance hall holds the Heiliggeist-Torkel, a wine press built in 1607 that could press up to 4,000 kilograms of grapes in 24 hours and stayed in operation until 1922. The city of Meersburg runs the museum through its culture and museum department.

The museum holds the oldest labelled wine bottle from the Lake Constance region, dated 1865 and lent by the Princes of Waldburg-Wolfegg. A wall installation shows one bottle from each of the 101 wine-producing countries. The drinking society of the 101 Citizens of Meersburg, one of Germany's oldest, dating to the 15th century, has its museum home here.

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible and occupies the former Heilig-Geist-Spital at Vorburggasse 11 in Meersburg's upper town. The entrance hall is dominated by the 1607 Heiliggeist-Torkel, a wine press in operation until 1922; a film projected onto it every half hour explains how it worked. A chip card lets visitors take tasting sips from a wine dispenser in the ground-floor tasting room.

The museum holds the oldest labelled wine bottle from the Lake Constance region, dated 1865, on loan from the Princes of Waldburg-Wolfegg. A wall installation also presents one bottle from each of the 101 wine-producing countries, with facts on global wine available via touchscreen.
