The Otto-Moericke tower, Water tower in Allmannsdorf, Constance, Germany
The Otto-Moericke Tower is a water storage structure in Allmannsdorf standing 40 meters high with a cylindrical reinforced concrete form. The building contains seven residential levels with continuous rows of windows and operates as a youth hostel offering overnight accommodation.
The structure was built in 1929 as an innovative reinforced concrete design, replacing an older wooden observation tower at the same site. From its start, it served a dual purpose of storing water for the city while providing lodging for visitors.
The tower's name honors Otto Moericke, a local industrialist who shaped the city's water supply system. Visitors can still observe the distinctive cylindrical design that made this structure stand out as a modern building of its era.
The building houses a youth hostel with 44 rooms total, several of which are located within the cylindrical tower structure itself. Each room has a private bathroom, and there is an observation area where guests can enjoy views across the lake.
The observation platform sits above a massive water tank holding 300 cubic meters, which supplies water to the entire district. Through its unusual polygonal window arrangement, visitors can take in panoramic views across Lake Constance and the surrounding region.
