Medienhaus der Funke Mediengruppe, Media headquarters in Westviertel, Essen, Germany
The Funke Mediengruppe Media House is an architectural structure in Essen's Westviertel district, consisting of three connected structures including a five-story round tower and two main buildings. The complex contains editorial offices, production areas, conference spaces, dining facilities, a fitness center, and a rooftop terrace.
The site originated as a printing house built in the 1920s by Theodor Reismann-Grone. After severe damage during World War II, the facility was later rebuilt and expanded.
The building stands in Essen's newspaper quarter, where media organizations established themselves throughout the 20th century. Visitors can still see traces of this journalistic tradition in the neighborhood today.
The site is easily accessible by public transportation and located in a busy district with shops and restaurants nearby. Keep in mind that this is an active office building, so interior access may be restricted to scheduled tours or special events.
The building features a large electronic news display on its exterior with tens of thousands of pixels showing current information. This digital installation makes the structure a noticeable landmark even after dark.
