Alfred Krupp monument, Essen
Alfred Krupp monument, Essen, Bronze monument at Marktkirche, Essen, Germany.
The 2.6-meter bronze statue stands on a stone pedestal, depicting Alfred Krupp wearing a riding suit near the Market Church in central Essen.
The Essen city council decided to erect this monument just three weeks after Alfred Krupp's death, with its initial unveiling taking place on July 14, 1889.
The monument represents the industrial development of Essen, where Krupp transformed his father's steel casting factory into the largest industrial enterprise in Europe.
The monument returned to its original location in 2006 after several relocations, making it accessible to visitors exploring the city center of Essen.
Despite heavy bombing of Essen's inner city during World War II, the monument remained largely undamaged until its temporary removal by unknown individuals after the war.
