Hotel Handelshof, Heritage hotel near Central Station in Essen, Germany.

Hotel Handelshof is a six-story building housing 99 double rooms across five floors with refined furnishings and contemporary facilities. It offers seven meeting rooms accommodating up to 160 guests and maintains 24-hour front desk service for visitors.

The building was designed in 1911 by architects Carl Moritz and Werner Stahl, opening as a hotel in 1913 under manager Hermann Rühmann. Its construction reflected Essen's growth as an industrial and commercial center during the early 1900s.

The rooftop sign displayed 'ESSEN - DIE EINKAUFSSTADT' from 1950 onward, reflecting the city's shopping culture before changing to 'ESSEN - DIE FOLKWANGSTADT' in 2022. This shift highlights how the city's identity has centered around its famous art museum in recent years.

The hotel is centrally located near Central Station, making it easily accessible by public transportation. Breakfast is served daily from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, allowing guests to eat according to their schedule.

The ground floor originally housed retail shops and a cinema, demonstrating how mixed-use buildings served city centers in the early 1900s. This shows that entry areas were also vibrant commercial hubs supporting neighborhood activity.
