The Postbank Tower is a glass and light metal office building with 19 floors located near Essen's central station. The facade with its horizontal ribs creates a clearly structured appearance and still shapes the city's skyline today.
The building was constructed between 1963 and 1967 as one of the region's early skyscrapers. It remained Essen's tallest structure until 1979, marking the shift toward a modern city image.
The tower shaped Essen's postwar identity as a symbol of economic renewal. Its glass facade and horizontal lines still feel modern today, showing how American design influenced German building during this era.
The building stands directly beside the central station and is easily reached on foot. Visitors can view the exterior from different angles to appreciate its architectural design.
The building's construction allows for generous free spans of 14 meters on each floor. This was a remarkable technical achievement for its time and provided flexible interior layout options.
