Pergamon-Panorama, Panoramic painting at Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany.
The Pergamon-Panorama is a massive circular painting measuring 104 meters wide and 30 meters high, created from polyester to show an ancient city in full detail. The artwork depicts the city during a festival period, revealing different districts and landmarks of the metropolis.
The panorama was created by artist Yadegar Asisi in 2018, depicting the city during a festival of Dionysus in the year 129 AD. This particular moment in time was chosen to show the city at its peak as a wealthy and important metropolis.
The artwork brings together modern art with ancient sculptures from the museum's collection, displayed alongside the panoramic painting. Visitors experience how these objects relate to the reconstructed cityscape they see.
Visitors view the painting from a central tower that rises five stories high and offers views of the entire scene from all angles. Light and sound effects play during the visit to simulate the passage of a complete day across the depicted city.
The polyester canvas reveals the ancient altar structure in its original urban setting, surrounded by temples and theaters as they once stood. This reconstruction helps visitors understand how the famous monument fit into the city's layout and daily life.
