Jägerkaserne, Military barracks in Petershausen-West district, Konstanz, Germany
Jägerkaserne is a military complex comprising troop barracks, administrative structures, and service buildings spread across a large compound in Petershausen-West. Today the grounds house student dormitories, a daycare facility, sports spaces, and community centers occupying the various structures and the former parade ground.
The facility was built in neobaroque style between 1914 and 1917 as the German Empire prepared for war. French forces occupied and managed the grounds from 1945 until 1978, when ownership shifted to private hands.
The complex's layout and building styles reflect its roots as a military training center that shaped the neighborhood's character. Walking through the grounds, visitors can sense how the structured arrangement of buildings once organized daily military routines.
The grounds now house mixed-use facilities including student housing, a daycare, and community centers that serve visitors and residents. You can walk through the compound to see how the buildings are arranged and understand the layout of this former military installation.
The former officers' casino was converted into a hotel in 1994 and now welcomes civilian guests instead of military personnel. The old parade ground drill hall similarly found new life as a sports facility, demonstrating how the spaces were transformed for community use.
