Haus Kucher

Haus Kucher is a residential building with four large dormer windows on its south facade and gently curved exterior walls across multiple levels. The structure features external staircases on both short sides that connect the basement entrance to the upper living floors.

The building was constructed between 1988 and 1991 as an early project by Swiss architect Valerio Olgiati during his time working in Germany. This project represents a significant point in the architect's career where he began exploring geometric forms and spatial concepts.

The building shows how modern design approaches blend with residential living through its spatial organization and material choices. Visitors notice how the interior spaces encourage a specific way of living that connects indoor and outdoor areas.

Accessing the living floors requires climbing one of the exterior staircases on either short side of the building starting from the basement level. Be prepared for an outdoor climb and wear appropriate footwear, as the access route involves ascending the side of the structure.

A north-facing courtyard enclosed by concrete walls connects to the living space through a large glass window, creating a sheltered outdoor room. This hidden courtyard is often overlooked by visitors despite being a central element of the building's spatial design.
