Hagener Hütte am Ettelsberg, Mountain hut in Rothaargebirge, Germany
Hagener Hütte am Ettelsberg is a mountain hut in the Rothaargebirge mountains, situated at 776 meters elevation and providing shelter for hikers. The building contains sleeping spaces in mattress dormitories that accommodate up to ten people, along with basic facilities for multi-day stays.
The building was founded in 1911 by the Ettelshütte Association and has shaped the mountain landscape since then. After damage during World War II, major restoration took place in 1951, after which it was converted to operate as a self-catering facility.
The hut is run by the Hagen section of the German Alpine Club and maintains the traditions of mountaineering in this region. Visitors encounter a long culture of shared overnight stays and fellowship among hikers here.
Visitors should reserve ahead since sleeping spaces are limited and the hut is popular. Access is best by train to Willingen station and then on foot up the mountain.
Many hikers do not realize the hut serves as an important rest stop on longer mountain routes through the region. From here, routes open up that connect less-visited peaks with rewarding views.
