Leuchtturm Lauterbach, Maritime navigation lighthouse in Lauterbach harbor, Putbus, Germany
Leuchtturm Lauterbach is a small navigation lighthouse in Lauterbach harbor on the island of Rügen with a white shaft and red conical roof. The cast-iron structure sits on a granite foundation and marks the harbor entrance for incoming vessels.
The lighthouse was manufactured in 1904 by Julius Pintsch and began operation in 1905 under the name Leuchtturm Ranzow on the north coast of the Jasmund peninsula. It originally stood on Dänholm island before being moved to its current location in 2021.
The lighthouse serves as a landmark for the harbor and reflects the maritime traditions of the island. Visitors see it as part of the modern port landscape that connects fishing heritage with tourism.
The lighthouse is easily visible from the harbor and can be viewed from the water or from the walkways around the port area. The best view comes when arriving by boat or while walking along the harbor edge.
The lighthouse underwent restoration in 2002 on Dänholm island and remained there for 17 years before moving to the harbor. This lengthy relocation history makes it a rare example of a relocated lighthouse in the region.
