Ringwall Kautenbach

Ringwall Kautenbach is a circular fortification with multiple earth banks and stone walls located on elevated terrain near the Moselle valley. The concentric arrangement of structures follows the natural contours of the hilltop.

The fortification was built in ancient times by Celts and served as a strategic point for monitoring and protecting surrounding territories. This settlement shows the early development of fortified communities in the region.

The site reveals how Celtic communities organized their settlements and what building techniques they used. Artifacts found here provide insight into the daily lives of these early inhabitants.

The site is accessible from Traben-Trarbach via marked hiking trails with informational panels explaining the structures. The walk involves a moderate uphill climb on well-marked paths.

From the site, visitors can spot three distinct wall sections that adapt to the natural slope of the hill. This adaptation shows the skill of Celtic builders in working with the existing landscape.
