Moselbrücke Bernkastel-Kues, Road bridge in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany.
The Moselbrücke Bernkastel-Kues spans approximately 147 meters across the river, linking the two districts of Bernkastel and Kues with a steel composite structure that is 12 meters wide. The bridge includes four observation areas from which visitors can see the surrounding valley and river.
The first permanent bridge at this location opened in 1874 as an iron truss structure, marking the first fixed crossing below Trier in the region. The current structure was completed in 1995 as the fourth bridge to be built here, replacing its predecessors.
The bridge connects two communities whose identities have been shaped by generations of wine production in the valley below. Local vineyards remain central to how people here work and understand their place in the region.
The bridge carries the L47 regional road and is open daily for traffic between both banks, handling heavy vehicle loads up to bridge class 60/30. Pedestrians and cyclists can also use it and will find good viewpoints along the structure for looking out over the landscape.
When the bridge was renovated in 1933, engineers moved the old steel structure to the side while constructing the new one on the existing foundations. This approach kept river traffic flowing throughout the entire rebuilding period.
