Kumasi Metropolitan District, Administrative district in Kumasi, Ghana
The Kumasi Metropolitan District spans 214 square kilometers in the Ashanti Region, containing ten sub-metropolitan areas including Manhyia, Tafo, and Suame.
King Osei Tutu I established this administrative center in 1680, transforming it from three initial communities into the capital of the Asante State.
The district maintains five distinct health districts and houses the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, serving both urban populations and surrounding communities.
The metropolitan area contains 649 public educational institutions and approximately 1,500 private schools, including two major universities and a medical school.
The water supply system extends through more than 1,005 kilometers of pipeline, drawing from both the Offin and Owabi rivers through treatment plants.
