Kumasi Metropolitan District is an administrative area in Ghana's Ashanti Region that encompasses several neighborhoods including Manhyia, Tafo, and Suame. The district functions as a major urban center with hundreds of schools at all levels, from primary through higher education institutions.
This administrative center was founded in 1680 under King Osei Tutu I, growing from three initial communities into the capital of the Asante State. Over subsequent centuries, the region became the cultural and political heart of Asante society.
The district maintains five distinct health districts and houses the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, serving both urban populations and surrounding communities.
