Fort Prinzenstein

Fort Prinzenstein stands along the southeastern coast of Ghana, featuring thick stone walls and multiple chambers constructed with materials from Accra.

Danish traders established the fort in 1734 as a defensive structure, which later transformed into a major center for slave trade operations.

The fort contains inscriptions from former prisoners in its dungeons, documenting personal experiences during the colonial period through written messages.

Visitors can reach the fort by taking a regional bus to Keta from Accra, with guided tours available during daylight hours throughout the week.

The structure includes specific holding areas where medical examinations of enslaved individuals occurred before their transport across the Atlantic Ocean.
