Ga East Municipal District, Municipal district in Greater Accra Region, Ghana
Ga East Municipal District is an administrative area in Greater Accra Region comprising residential communities such as Abokobi, Dome, Madina, Taifa, Ashongman, and Kwabenya. The district includes various settlements with schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial markets serving local residents.
The district emerged from the division of the larger Ga District in 2004 and received municipal status in 2008. A further boundary change occurred in 2012.
The Presbyterian mission in Abokobi shaped the town as a religious center for the community. This heritage continues to influence religious life across several settlements in the district.
Visitors will find schools, health centers, and markets spread across the settlements, with Madina market being a major commercial hub. The area is accessible by public transport and suitable for day trips from Accra.
Kwabenya houses the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission with its research facilities. Pantang is home to a major psychiatric hospital that also runs a specialized nursing training school.
