Karipion Melathron - Institute for National and Religious Studies

Karipion Melathron is a four-story corner building at the intersection of Olympiados and Stefaniou Dragoumi streets in Thessaloniki, displaying architectural features from the Ottoman period. Its interior contains walls and ceilings decorated with floral and organic patterns painted in multiple colors.

Italian architect Vitaliano Poselli designed the building as the official residence for the Selanik Prefect during Ottoman rule in Macedonia. Following the end of Ottoman administration, the structure was repurposed and eventually became home to a research institute.

The institute studies Greek history and religious traditions through its work today. People gather in its rooms to discuss and share knowledge about these subjects.

The building is easily recognizable from the street and sits in a central location in Thessaloniki. Since it functions as a research institute, access may be limited to certain hours, so checking ahead is recommended before visiting.

The interior preserves original furnishings carefully matched to the colors and styles of the historical wall paintings and ceiling designs. This coordination between the decorations and the furniture creates a unified sense of how these rooms once felt.
