Konak, Protected administrative building on Agios Dimitrios Street, Thessaloniki, Greece.
The Konak features three original floors and a fourth floor addition from 1955, displaying neoclassical architectural elements throughout its structure.
Constructed in 1891 as the residence for the governor-general of Salonica Vilayet, the building witnessed the surrender of Thessaloniki during the First Balkan War.
The building stands on the former site of the Byzantine Emperor's imperial palace, connecting ancient and modern administrative functions in Thessaloniki.
The Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace currently operates from this building, which remains open for administrative purposes during regular government hours.
During the devastating fire of 1917 that destroyed much of Thessaloniki's center, the Konak remained intact and preserved its original structure.
