Loutro

Loutro is a settlement nestled in a sheltered cove with limestone cliffs rising steeply from the water's edge. The village sits directly along the shoreline with no flat land beyond the waterfront buildings.

The site was once Phoenix, a Roman-era port that served the mountain town of Anopolis. This ancient role as a trading point established the area's importance as a coastal settlement.

The fishing community here still follows customs rooted in family traditions stretching back through centuries. Local recipes and daily practices reflect the maritime heritage that shapes life in this village.

Reach the village by ferry to Chora Sfakion or by hiking coastal trails from neighboring towns. Access by water or foot makes this place feel separate from the everyday world.

The village has no roads and no motor vehicles of any kind. Everything moves by foot or by water, making this one of the few places where cars have never reached.
