Thessaloniki Port, Industrial port in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Thessaloniki Port spreads along the northwestern Aegean coastline and functions as a major trade hub for the region. The facility handles hundreds of thousands of containers yearly and connects maritime traffic directly to the national rail network.
The port structures originated in the final years of Ottoman rule and show the early beginnings of modern maritime activity in the region. Later expansions helped meet growing trade demands between Europe and the Balkans.
The port area carries the memory of the Jewish community that was deported from here during World War II. A museum in development aims to document and share this difficult chapter with visitors.
The port is accessible via several approach routes and sits close to the city center. Keep in mind this is an active industrial area where access may be restricted in certain zones.
The port serves both small coastal vessels and massive cargo ships by maintaining different water depths at various docking areas. This flexibility makes it one of the most versatile ports in Southeast Europe.
