Porte des Lilas, Metro station in eastern Paris, France
Porte des Lilas is a metro station spanning the 19th and 20th arrondissements with five side platforms and one island platform. The station connects Line 11 with Line 3bis, serving as a junction point for east Paris transit.
The station opened on November 27, 1921, as part of Line 3's extension from Gambetta toward the east. In 1971, network reorganization made it the terminal station for Line 3bis.
The platforms display white-tiled walls with mosaics of lilac flowers and a portrait of French singer Georges Brassens along Line 11. These decorative elements reflect the neighborhood's connection to the flower that gives the station its name.
The station has five street-level entrances and multiple bus connections nearby. Navigation between the two lines is straightforward thanks to clear signage in the interchange areas.
An unused station section called Porte des Lilas-Cinema is rented out for film and television productions. This unconventional use provides steady income for the metro system.
