Tour Generali, Office building in La Défense, France
Tour Generali is a 46-story office tower in La Défense designed by the architectural firm Valode & Pistre following rationalist principles. The structure combines a clean geometric form with modern materials and vertical articulation that contributes to the character of the business district.
The project was commissioned in 2006 by the Italian insurance company Assicurazioni Generali and underwent revisions due to local concerns about the building's height and visual impact. These modifications shaped the final design that stands in the district today.
The building embodies the identity of La Défense as a major business hub and demonstrates how corporations choose to express themselves architecturally in this district. Its rational design reflects contemporary professional values and the importance placed on efficiency in the modern workplace.
The main entrance connects to the elevated esplanade at the sixth-floor level, offering direct access to the La Défense pedestrian network and its connections to surrounding buildings. This arrangement allows visitors to move smoothly through the district without descending to ground level.
The tower incorporates renewable energy systems directly into its structure, including approximately 400 square meters (4,305 square feet) of photovoltaic cells and over 800 square meters (8,610 square feet) of solar panels. These energy-generating elements were integral to the building's sustainability approach from the start of its design.
