Cinéaqua, Public aquarium at Trocadéro Gardens, Paris, France
Cinéaqua is an aquarium situated beneath the Trocadéro Gardens with more than 40 tanks displaying fish from French waters and tropical seas. The facility occupies two underground levels and presents the range of marine life in a single location.
The aquarium opened in 2006 and has since used the underground spaces beneath the Trocadéro area. It transformed an unused part of the city into a modern place for exploring marine life.
The facility tells stories about ocean life and how it connects to people's daily lives through its exhibits. Visitors discover how sea creatures depend on their habitats and why caring for marine environments matters to everyone.
The location sits very close to the Eiffel Tower and is easily reached on foot from nearby streets. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since exploring all the levels involves some walking around the underground galleries.
An underwater glass tunnel lets visitors watch sharks and rays swimming past them at eye level and above. This passageway fascinates children especially, as they can observe the animals in a way that feels very close and direct.
