Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000, Winter sports resort in Cerdagne region, France
Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 is a ski resort in the Cerdagne region with slopes running between 1,712 to 2,213 meters (5,600 to 7,260 feet) in elevation. The area spans 38 kilometers of pistes divided into four skiing sectors served by 14 lift systems and supplemented by more than 500 snow cannons.
The location became an important training ground for French winter sports athletes in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly for biathlon and cross-country skiing. Its development as a high-altitude center shaped its role in European winter sports and athletic preparation programs.
The resort sits within the Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees and reflects local mountain traditions through its design and year-round outdoor activities. Visitors experience how the community embraces both winter and summer recreation as part of daily life.
The resort welcomes visitors during the winter season from November through March with daily access from 9:00 to 18:00. Equipment rental, ski lessons, and various lodging options are available on-site to support multi-day stays.
The region receives around 325 days of sunshine per year, keeping the slopes bright and open even during winter months. This exceptional level of natural light is rare among European ski resorts and shapes the distinctive feel of the place.
