Mont Veyrier, Limestone summit in Haute-Savoie, France

Mont Veyrier is a 1,291-meter limestone summit that rises above Lake Annecy, featuring a steep ridge with dense forest and exposed rock sections near the top. The mountain consists of massive limestone formations that developed over millions of years.

Local people established multiple routes to the summit in the 19th century, creating a network of paths that connected surrounding villages with the mountain. These early trails laid the foundation for the hiking routes used today.

The mountain serves as a gathering place for people from Annecy and nearby villages who hike here regularly and connect with the landscape. These paths are woven into the daily life of local residents who have used this place for generations.

The mountain is accessible via marked trails that start from several points around the lake and require moderate fitness. Weather can change quickly at higher elevations, so bring appropriate footwear and clothing for changing conditions.

The limestone layers contain fossil remains that reveal the area was once underwater, preserving evidence from prehistoric times. Visitors can observe these traces and understand the mountain's ancient past while walking through it.
