Musée de la viscose

Musée de la viscose, Industrial heritage museum in Échirolles, France.

This museum occupies the former viscose factory grounds and presents machinery, photographs, and films documenting artificial silk production. The displays walk visitors through each stage of the manufacturing process using original equipment and archived visual records.

The factory opened in 1927 and became a major center for artificial silk production in the Grenoble region for more than 60 years. Production ceased in 1989, and the site was later transformed into a museum to preserve this industrial legacy.

The exhibits reveal how workers from many countries formed a close community within these walls, leaving their mark on the factory's identity. Visitors can sense this multicultural heritage through personal objects and accounts displayed throughout the spaces.

The museum is located on Rue du Tremblay in Échirolles and is easily accessible to visitors. Group tours require advance reservation, so plan accordingly if you are traveling with others.

The collection preserves thousands of items spanning every aspect of viscose production, from raw materials to finished textiles ready for sale. These objects tell the personal stories of the people who worked and lived within the factory community.
