Plateau d'Assy

The Plateau d'Assy is a high mountain settlement located at approximately 1030 meters elevation in the French Alps, commanding views of the Mont Blanc massif and surrounding Alpine peaks. The place connects to nearby communities through local roads and serves as a starting point for numerous hiking trails throughout the Haute-Savoie region.

The area transformed during the 1950s from an agricultural district into a winter sports destination, marked by the installation of a cable car from Chedde. This shift represented a turning point in how the region developed as a modern recreation hub.

The Notre-Dame-de-Toute-Grâce church stands as the spiritual and artistic heart of the settlement, featuring artworks by renowned creators like Marc Chagall and Fernand Léger within its modern walls. The location is best accessed during seasons with stable weather conditions, especially from late spring through autumn for hiking activities. Visitors should prepare for high-altitude mountain conditions and bring warm, weather-resistant clothing.

The settlement houses one of France's largest paragliding schools, which takes advantage of favorable thermal conditions and open launch zones for training beginners. The schools benefit from natural wind patterns that regularly create ideal conditions for the sport here.
