Pont de l'Artuby, Concrete arch bridge in Aiguines, France
Pont de l'Artuby is a concrete arch bridge that spans the Artuby River gorge in a single sweeping arc. The structure rises high above the valley, creating an open view down to the canyon below.
Construction began in the 1930s but was interrupted by World War II and completed after the war ended. This bridge finally connected two sides of the valley that had been difficult to cross before.
The bridge forms part of the Corniche Sublime route, connecting communities near the Verdon Gorge while providing access to regional outdoor activities.
You can walk across the bridge, and there are spots where you can stop to look around. The best views come from the middle section, where you feel the full height above the canyon floor.
The bridge was built using an unusual method where two large segments were lifted vertically and lowered over the valley. This technique made it possible to create a structure that appears as one continuous arc, though it was assembled from prefabricated pieces.
