Roca Colom, Mountain summit at Pyrenees, France and Spain
Roca Colom is a mountain summit in the eastern Pyrenees that rises to approximately 2506 meters and marks the border between France and Spain. Multiple hiking paths approach it from the valleys of Setcases, Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste, and Mantet, making it accessible from both countries.
The peak became an official boundary marker between France and Spain following the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659. It has served this border function continuously since that agreement was established.
Shepherds from both valleys bring their flocks to the high pastures each summer, creating a lived landscape shaped by daily pastoral routines. You can still encounter these grazing animals and the shepherds who tend them during the warm months.
The summit is reachable on foot from multiple starting points in the surrounding valleys, with routes requiring several hours depending on your approach. Sturdy footwear and basic mountain gear are important because the altitude and exposed terrain demand preparation.
Despite its substantial elevation, this peak remains less celebrated than some neighboring summits that receive more attention from visitors. Its prominence relative to nearby peaks contributes to it being occasionally overlooked in favor of more famous neighbors.
